THE HOLY CUSTOM TAKES PLACE ONTHE DAYS WHEN KANNON'S BLESSINGSARE AMPLIFIED

The custom of the Thousand-day Pilgrimage, during which one day of prayer is equivalent to a thousand days' worth of meritorious prayers, took root alongside the spread of the worship of Kannon. It has widely gained popularity as the event for which the Kannon's blessings are amplified. On these days, you can feel the great compassion of Kannon, who earnestly listens to every person's vows and worries and strives to relieve each torment. During the period of Thousand-day Pilgrimage, the nainaijin (the innermost sanctuary) in Main Hall is specially opened to the public in the evening as well as in the daytime.

Jun 21, 2018

The Fête de la Musique is a musical fete, which was originally established in Paris in 1982 and has continued to expand across the world. Today, multiple events related to this international music festival take place worldwide, in 120 countries and 800 cities on the Summer Solstice, the longest day of the year in the Northern Hemisphere. This year, an extraordinary concert featuring brass, called 100-Trumpet Ensemble, will be held in the Kiyomizu-dera Temple's compound in Kyoto, to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the sister-city affiliation between Paris and Kyoto.
In the square beneath the temple's Sai-mon (West gate), 100 trumpet players will gather, playing a wide range of music such as opera masterpieces like Aida and Carmen, French chansons, Japanese nursery songs and ballet music. With varied and vibrant sounds, Kiyomizu would like to express its philanthropic spirits to the rest of the world.

The concert performed in the temple's grounds will be broadcast live on the Kiyomizu-dera Temple's official Facebook page as well as Facebook Live and shared with the viewers all over the world.
